Katy Tour - June Tour
Katy Tour - Sept. Tour
Join HTC on the beautiful and historic Katy Trail, the longest fully developed rail-trail in the country. The former
Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad (MKT or Katy) was established as a recreation corridor for hikers and cyclists in the early
1990's. Since then thousands of visitors have enjoyed leisurely strolls and afternoon rides along the Missouri River on the
Katy.
The Katy Trail presents a unique opportunity to cycle traffic free through lush vegetation and along towering limestone bluffs,
taking in the history and culture of the charming villages that border this scenic trail.
HTC staff will meet our guests at a predetermined hotel near the Kansas City International (KCI) Airport on the morning of the
first day of the ride. From here we will travel the ninety-minute drive to Clinton, Missouri where we will begin our Katy
Trail adventure. We will ride through the quiet countryside, rolling past quaint villages on our way to Sedalia where we will
spend our first night under the stars.
After a delicious breakfast prepared by our staff we’re off to visit the historic Sedalia Depot and begin our second day
discovering the Katy Trail. Picturesque villages await our arrival as we make our way to the historic community of Boonville.
Here you can stop for some homemade pie, a refreshing drink, or a memorable visit to the beautifully restored MKT Depot
overlooking the Missouri River.
When you are ready to leave Boonville, cycle across the Missouri River Bridge to New Franklin, the Trailhead of the Santa Fee
Trail, and our home for the second night. When you arrive in camp you might want to hit the showers and clean up before
continuing to explore the area, or, grab a cool refreshing drink, a comfortable lawn-chair, and kick back in the shade while
the staff prepares a delicious dinner. It’s your vacation, relax and have a great time!
Day three, we will be traveling in the footsteps of Lewis and Clark, early explorers of the Missouri River in 1804 and on their
return from the west in 1806. The MK&T tunnel, at 243 feet long, will greet us as we coast into the picturesque village of
Rocheport. Towering limestone bluffs and hanging wild grape vines from century old oak trees protect us from the sun as we
pedal down the lazy river. We will cycle through the quiet hamlets of McBaine and Easley on our way to Hartsburg, where we
will camp on our third night. Here you may want to treat yourself to a fruit smoothie at the Cycle Depot, a souvenir
tee-shirt, or enjoy a glass of wine at the Thorn Hill Winery.
Day four on our way to Hermann, we will cycle through more sleepy villages along the mighty Missouri River, catching glimpses
of the State Capitol across the river in Jefferson City. In Hermann, church steeples dominate the skyline, and the German
architecture lends an old world feel to this charming village. We will tour Stone Hill Winery (one of the oldest wineries
in the country) and sample the wine, which has made Stone Hill world renown.
Day five the quaint villages of Marthasville and Augusta offer opportunities to explore history, antique shop, or visit more
world class wineries. Near Defiance, we will tour the property settled by the famous frontiersman, Daniel Boone, and see how
one mans family has left an ever-lasting mark in Missouri.
Day six is a short ride through shady tunnels of vegetation and past quiet villages as we pedal our way toward historic St.
Charles. It’s been a spectacular trip, but in St. Charles we will say goodbye to the Katy, and the new friends we made.
Some riders will drive back with us to KCI that day, and others may bid us farewell in St. Charles.
